BIOGRAPHY
Walter F. Mc Dermott
Walter F McDermott was born Feb 14 1926 in Port Chester to Walter and Juanita Toohill McDermott. He attended schools in Port Chester and graduated from Rye High School in 1947.
In Rye his family lived on West Glen Avenue. Walter enlisted at the age of 17 on May 19, 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He served in the Pacific as a radioman / radar operator on Navy Bombers. Walter was awarded three
Navy Air Medals
for locating and destroying enemy ships He also was awarded
the Purple Heart.
On April 28, 1947 he would reenlist and serve four more years

Walter was married the former Mary Lander. He was the founder of McDermott Paint & Wallpaper on Spring Street in Greenwich.
He was a volunteer firefighter in Rye and Greenwich for many years He was past president of the Kiwanis Club of Greenwich. Walter was semiretired and lived in Greenwich and Puerto Plata Dominican Republic.
Walter F McDermott a Port Chester native died Saturday January 13, 1996 at his home in Greenwich Conn He was 69.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Walter ‘of Greenwich time daughters D-V bra Adkins of Torrlngton Ct Susan Rafter of Newtown CT and Elisabeth McDermott of Norwalk CT seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
